“a growing reputation as one of the rising stars of the modern Welsh folk scene” - Nation.Cymru

Singing in one of Europe’s oldest living languages, native Celt Mari Mathias creates bold and compelling contemporary folk music, transforming traditional melodies collected from the wilds of west Wales into immersive, multi-dimensional modern anthems.

Her music feels both ancient and strikingly new. Shaped by nature, ritual and a deep sense of place, it is mystical yet rooted, intimate yet electrifying.

Following the release of her 2022 debut album Annwn, Mari and her band have appeared on major UK and European festival stages, including Cambridge Folk Festival, Festival Interceltique de Lorient, Green Man Festival, Glastonbury, The Great Escape, Between the Trees, Summer Camp, Wanderfal and many more.

In April 2026, Mari returned with her second album, Cyfarwydd. Meaning ‘familiar’ in modern Welsh, cyfarwydd also reaches back to medieval Cymru and the tradition of the storyteller.

The album carries listeners along heather-rooted coastlines and wild saltwater edges, and high among the mystic mountains and Preseli bluestones. Language, land and story merge and unfurl in music that feels timeless, elemental and profoundly alive.
